Situation
  • Our client wanted to identify Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) across all tumor types to be used by Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs), commercial, clinical, and sales.

  • Our client, a top 10 pharmaceutical company, wanted to institute a consistent approach to Key Opinion Leader (KOL) identification across all therapeutic areas to be used by Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs), commercial, clinical, and sales.
Objectives
  • Identify local, regional, national, and global KOLs in selected tumor types.
  • Understand if there are individuals who are local, regional, national, and global KOLs in more than one tumor type.
  • Develop and create a database tool which can be used on an ongoing basis to allow for easy querying of KOLs in each tumor type and across tumor types
    • For example, who are the KOLs in tumor type 1, who are the KOLs in tumor type 1 and/or tumor type 2?
    • Tool continuously updated as KOL studies are completed for additional tumor types.

  • The methodology and scope for each tumor type was customized based on the team's needs (e.g., US vs global, include literature search to identify top authors or not, single disease area or multiple, follow-up questions about nominated KOLs in primary research).
  • Primary market research with practicing physicians who nominated local, regional, national, and global KOLs.
  • Literature search to identify top authors and develop in-depth profiles for top KOLs.
